Tainan is historically the most important city in the country. For example, it was the capital of the island for 200 years during the Chinese Qing dynasty, until it was moved to Taipei in 1887. And the city came into being, as the Dutch built a fortress, Fort Zeelandia, between 1624 and 1632. This is still one of the main tourist attractions of the city.
