Gwangju is not one of the first cities you think of when visiting South Korea. Located in the southwest of the country, it has a population of about 1.4 million and is especially nice for visiting some historical sites. For example, you’ll find the Gwangju National Museum and the Asian Culture Center here to learn more about the history and culture of this region. And outside the city is the May 18 Cemetery commemorating the uprising in 1980 against the then dictatorial regime. More than 600 people lost their lives. In short: you go to this city mainly for a number of historical attractions. Let’s go to Gwangju!
