Fenghuang in Hunan Province is one of the nicest and most authentic cities in China. It is considered by many people to be the most beautiful town in the country, mainly because of its characteristic houses on stilts along the Tuojiang River. Fenghuang, which means bird rising from the ashes (phoenix) has a history of more than 300 years and is therefore also on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
