The Birth of Leonardo on April 15, 1542

Anchiano is a small hamlet of a few houses, part of the town of Vinci. Historical sources have revealed that little Leonardo was born in Anchiano. In his father’s notarized register, found in the archives in Florence, there is an annotation from grandfather Antonio da Vinci about little Leonardo’s birth and place.

However, it is not 100% certain that this was also on the site that we now know as Casa Natale di Leonardo da Vinci. In any case, the existence of this farm was confirmed as early as 1427. And also we know that the property was owned by the Vinci family for more than 150 years. On April 15, 1952, 500 years after the birth of the child prodigy, this farm did become officially designated as the birthplace and the museum Casa Natale di Leonardo da Vinci became a reality….
